Geraldine has been wondering why the lemon aspen harvest

at Oak Grove has been rather poor this year and

photographed the culprit this morning as he was

enjoying a lovely sunny day in the orchard .

Antioxidants=Native fruits

Everyone knows about the 'Blueberry' being a super fruit....but, recent research published by RIRDC has found that many native fruits and spices have 'super' values of antioxidant capacity and are high in micro nutrients...including our rainforest plum (davidson's plum) and rainforest lemon (lemon aspen). Even higher than the Blueberry...!

In summary, the davidson's plum is naturally high in antioxidants, lutein, vitamin E, folate, zinc, magnesium, calcium, molebendum & has a high potassium to sodium ratio which is preferred for high blood pressure sufferers. The lemon aspen is naturally high in folate, iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese & calcium.

Clearly delicious new look

Our long awaited and talked about 'rebranding' is nearly complete

We will be launching it soon but heres a sneak preview of the new look and one of the new products..!

These rainforest berries our orchard grown Lillypillies and have featured in our popular Australian christmas cake in recent years. They are also delicious dropped in a glass of champers or wrapped in some finely shaved turkey as a canape.

Keep an eye out for them in the next few weeks

'Very' cherry jelly

The lastest fruit bearing right now at Frog Hollow are the Herbert River Cherries (Antidesma bunius).

Like nearly all the rainforest bush tucker they are a pleasantly sour little fruit.

With a large seed in each berry they will never be a commercial fruit for us at Rainforest Bounty but they still make a very 'special' cherry jelly, which is sublime when coated with the best quality dark chocolate...yum yum.

Lemon aspen fruiting

Finally we've had some decent rain like a wet season should with 200m in the last week or so..!

The Rainforest Lemons are filling out and getting closer to being ready to pick and loads of other citrus including cumquats, finger limes, lemons and limes to preserve and create with.

Try some of our Rainforest Lemon and Lime Pickle on your next BBQ fish...its a beautiful citrus blast for your senses..!

Nutty over Atherton Oaks at Oak Grove

This year at Oak Grove has been a huge season for our

native nut tree which is called the Atherton Oak.

The beautiful blue fruit is the covering for the nut kernel

which is like a cross between an almond and a macadamia nut.

We will be experimenting with these delicious nuts in the cooking school.

Middle Eastern Fusion

Rainforest Bounty Jeowbong and Jus were beautifully fused

with traditional Middle Eastern recipes at the recent

cooking school. The Jus enhances other citrus such as

limes, lemons and oranges to create intense flavours which

tantalise the palate. The Jeowbong (roasted chilli paste) lifts

the spice blends and adds a hint of heat to the dish.

Next cooking school in February is Indonesian.

The 2012 Bounty

The result of a great season of fruit and an exciting day with Stu Frost shooting food images for our upcoming launch of the 'new look' Rainforest Bounty brand ...!

In the image are rainforest tamarinds (orange ones at the front), rainforest berries (red bell shaped berries front right and left side). The dark blue/black plums are our rainforest plums and the beautiful white flower spikes of the beginings of the 2012 crop of lemon aspen. In front of the bowl we have fingerlimes and some Herbert River cherries.

Doesnt it just make you want to smile ....?
