Inaugural Ooray Plum Festival - 28th & 29th SEPTEMBER
The Ooray Plum is a luscious, tart, purple fruit; high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals; known to local Aboriginal people as ‘Ooray’ and part of their rainforest-based cuisine for thousands of years.
To celebrate this wonderful native tropical Australian fruit, Rainforest Bounty Founder, Dr Geraldine McGuire and her husband Atherton Nye will host the inaugural Ooray Plum Festival at their stunning property on the Johnstone River near Malanda.
Held in partnership with the local Ngadjonji people, the festival will showcase the growing, harvesting, value-adding and cuisine of the Ooray plum over two tropical Spring days, beside the wonderful Johnstone River.
The Ooray Plum Festival is the acknowledgment of the roles played by all levels of the FNQ Community in the development of the native fruit sector and has been conceived as an annual grass roots collaborative event. Designed to elevate the food movement based around the sustainable cultivation, harvesting and processing of FNQ’s truly unique native food cornucopia.
Further details on the Ooray Plum Festival activities and bookings will be posted during early 2019.
